Alta Logs #10: Intros - Engineering

Hi, folks! First things first– stay safe out there. I’ve recently come down with COVID, and from first-hand experience, it’s no joke. Apologies that this Log is a little more casual than the last one– but it’s what I can manage while still super under the weather. Keep your masks on, wash your hands, and get vaccinated if you haven’t already!

Now that’s out of the way, I thought with all this talk of what Design and Engineering has been up to on Tower, ya’ll might want to get to know some of the newer additions to the team who are making the coding magic happen. The newest additions are James, Jack, Dylan, Josh, Cam, and Mike– Can you tell we’ve been beefing up our Engineering chops? Please give them a warm welcome– and without further ado…

James - he/him - Cloud Engineer
One of our more far-off team members, James resides in Johannesburg, South Africa! He’s interested in motorcycling, photography, music, and home automation when he’s not making sure the ATT servers run smoothly. Some games he enjoys include The Last of Us, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Jack - he/him - Senior Engineer
Jack is an Aussie team member, working out of Brisbane. He’s an optimization nut in terms of, well, everything— including his D&D characters! Some of his favourite games include Witcher 3, Mario Galaxy 2, and Rocket League. Unfortunately, most of his past work is still under NDA… but he can tell you he recently lent his skills to Idle Miner Tycoon.

Dylan - he/him - Gameplay Engineer
Another South African team member, Dylan is from Cape Town! Aside from coding, he enjoys cooking and writing-- in fact, he's a published author, with his second book on the way! He's worked in both the VR and console gaming industries, and has had his work showcased at Comic Con Africa. Some of his favourite games include ARK: Survival Evolved, Rust, Path of Exile, Star Citizen, and Half Life: Alyx.

Josh - he/him - Junior Gameplay Engineer
Hailing from Sydney, Josh is interested in a number of sports, including tennis and basketball, as well as NRL. Some of his favourite games include Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Hollow Knight, Professor Layton, and Dragon Quest.

Cameron - he/him - Senior Gameplay Engineer
Hailing from Brisbane, Cameron enjoys painting, fuzzy quadrupeds, board games, 90s indie rock, spicy food, and ice skating. When he’s not doing engineering things, he’s playing games such as Mirror’s Edge, Hearthstone, Left 4 Dead, Wipeout, Bushido Blade, Tenchu, Master of Magic, Gunstar Heroes, and Doom (1993).

Mike - he/him - Front End Developer
Also from Sydney, Mike makes sure all the functions in the game everyone sees are working properly. He’s interested in baking sourdough bread and woodworking when he’s not neck-deep in code, and some of his favourite games include Ultima Online, Dark Souls, and Slay the Spire.

Hope you enjoyed meeting some more technically-oriented team members! Keep your eyes peeled for more info as Tower nears its final stages, and I cannot wait to tell y’all what is coming in the future! Hopefully I will be recovered soon, and able to do more of a “deep dive” once again into our team and their processes as we continue to strive to make ATT the best game it can be. Love y’all, peace!
