Alta Logs #2: Status Update

Hey townsfolk, Cayde here with another Alta Log for you. Now that we’ve been introduced, I’d like to talk a bit about our current development, what’s going on at the studio, and also give you a few glimpses at the future.

First off, let’s talk about why we’ve been so quiet. Alta recently closed a funding round, which has expanded our plans for the game in some exciting ways. For those of you who have been with us a while, you know we only had a handful of people at Alta making A Township Tale, and this funding will allow us to grow our team so that we can focus on what really matters to us: making the best game we can for you. We’ve already been quietly building up the team, but couldn’t say anything until all of the funding stuff was official. With a bigger team, though, we’re going to be able to make a better game for you. Some of this has already started thanks to our new QA team. Our releases have been much cleaner lately, and we’re getting lots of bugs crunched in every update now. Quest just got a big bug fixing pass and we have a PC update with more fixes coming in the next week or two.

Now, let’s talk about content. We know updates have been slow lately, and we know that isn’t what you expected. The studio had a hard decision to make between trying to push content out at our previous pace, or taking a step back and building up a larger team to make better content in the future. After lots of internal discussions, we chose to build up the team because while it has slowed content updates down in the near-term, in the long run we’re going to be able to make a better game with a bigger team. We’re still building, so it’ll be a little while before teams are cranking away, but once they are you’ll have all kinds of new things to do in A Township Tale.

We’re also already looking to the future with what we can do with these new resources. The original Township Tale team had some pretty big plans on where they wanted to take the game, and now we have the means to actually work on those ideas. We’ve not only been looking at ways we can improve the current live game, but also how we can improve the experience in the future. There are things team members have been dying to put in the game for years, and now we’re going to be able to bring them to you. We’ll have more to share on this in the future, and we’re excited for you to see what’s coming.

Finally, I’d like to take a moment to talk about you, our wonderful townsfolk. You’ve always been our partners in this adventure, which has already gotten wilder than any of us had ever expected. We are so grateful for all of you, especially those that have stuck by us since our early days. To prove it, we’d like to give you a voice in where we go next from here. We’ve put together a survey for you to tell us what you like about the game (and what you don’t). The dev staff has asked for this directly, and want to know what your favorite parts of the current game are, as well as what you’d like to see next.

You can find that survey here: CLICK ME!

Whew, that was a lot! Thanks for reading this far. So after all that, hopefully you understand why we’ve had to be quiet lately, and why things have changed a bit from what you’re used to. Even though we’re all embarking on an exciting new future together, we’re still committed to making the best game we can, and we want to do it with you. Simply put, without our townsfolk, there is no Township. Thanks for supporting us, and we can’t wait to show you the adventures that are on the way. See you in two weeks or so!
