Alta Logs #6: Intros - New Game Designers

Happy end of the week, and I hope you’re all doing well! I'm glad to be settled again after GDC, and making some content for you all. Before we dig into this Alta Log, though, I want to remind everyone that we will be off this weekend for Easter Holiday. If you can’t get in touch with me (or anyone else) over the weekend— that’s probably why! Normal hours will resume Tuesday US Time, so please bear with us.

Now that that’s out of the way— some of you have been curious about the newer additions to the Alta team, so I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce a few of them! Hopefully this lets everyone get to know folks a little better, and clarifies what some of us do here at Alta. I’ll be introducing more departments as we go along, but this time around we are focusing on our new Game Designers: Merlin, Calvin, and Alex!

Calvin - he/him - Game Designer
"Coming to you from the depths of the concrete jungle spoken about in frightened whispers as ‘Los Angeles’... THIS SUMMER, one man battles the endless litany of traffic, heat waves capable of melting windows and doors, and the constant threat of the very tectonic plates sloughing the entire state into the ocean… he is: The Designing Man!"
Just kidding, he’s Calvin! And when he’s not designing games, he enjoys designing characters, drawing, TTRPGs, and creative writing. He enjoys essentially any game Fromsoft has ever made, as well as Company of Heroes 2, X4: Foundations, and Battlefield 4.
You can see his portfolio here: CLICK ME!

Alex - he/him - Junior Game Designer
Alex hails from Sydney, Australia. He’s not only a designer, but also a master chef— having worked as chef de cuisine for several venues including: head chef at Neutral Café, and sous chef at Star Cassino’s Event Center! Besides cooking and game design, Alex likes motorcycles and anime, and some of his favorite games include Star Wars Galaxies, The Last of Us, and League of Legends.

Merlin - he/him - Game Design Intern
Merlin recently joined the team from his flat in rainy London, UK. He’s not only a Game Design Intern— he’s also a semi-professional street dancer and self-proclaimed reptile enthusiast! Some of Merlin’s favourite games include Morrowind, Star Wars Galaxies, Kenshi, Valheim and Disco Elysium.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know some of us! Like I said, more departmental intros will be coming in the next few weeks. In other news, I’m heading to PAX East in Boston next week, and will have some photos and fun experiences to share once I return. And in terms of what we’re working on, development is continuing on Tower– I hope to have some more updates on that for you soon! The team is hard at work at the moment, and we’ll be back with another Log in about two weeks. As always, thank you for the continued support, and we appreciate each and every one of you! Stay safe!
